Final Preparations

November 29, 2009 1:23 am

On Monday I will drive to New Orleans to start my trip to Nigeria. As I get the final items together for the trip I would like to ask you to generally pray for 3 things.

  • Safety as I travel.
  • Wisdom as I preach and teach. I have some material prepared, but some of it will require knowing what the need is.
  • Discernment in some decisions once I get there. There are a couple of investigative items I am doing there and I will need God’s guidance in how I make future recommendations to people.

I will try to update this page while I am there, but I really don’t know how accessible an Internet connection will be.

Thank you for your prayers for me and my family while I am away from them.

Flying to Nigeria in less than 10 days

November 22, 2009 1:50 am

I have spent the last 10 days extremely focused on my trip to Nigeria on November 30 to December 15. I could not get my visa until I had tickets in hand for the flight. I could not buy the tickets until I had money to do so. It cut me a little close on the timing, but I do have my visa approved and ready to go in a few days.

While traveling 4,000 miles in the last 14 days I was also working on gathering teaching materials to take to the churches I will be with. Our mission board has some great materials that have been donated that I can take with me. Also Silent Word Ministries was gracious enough to donate a tremendous amount of literature for the Nigerian Deaf.

The purpose of the trip is to help a particular pastor with some needs he has in his ministry to the Deaf. While I am there working with him he has scheduled a pastors conference with a group of hearing pastors in Lagos. The second week of my stay we will be moving up to the city of Abeokuta where I will preach and teach the Deaf and deaf pastors/workers from around the area.

I do appreciate your prayers and will do my best to keep you updated through DPeach.com as much as possible during the trip.

Prayer Letter November 2009

Dear Praying Friends,
Nigeria? Since when did Nigeria become a part of Latin America?

While our ministry is focused on the Deaf of Latin America, we are also helping missionaries and national workers around the world as a broader ministry through our mission board, BIO. As a result of this ministry I will take a trip to Nigeria in December to help national pastor Olawale Orekan in a deaf church in Abeokuta, Nigeria. Pastor Olawale is a hearing pastor who was burdened for the Deaf in Abeokuta and became their pastor this year. I will spend 2 weeks with him helping him to better understand sign language and the Deaf. Prayerfully, my ministry in the church will allow Pastor Olawale to be more effective in his ministry and encourage and strengthen the church in Nigeria as they seek to reach other Deaf around them.

While preparing for that trip we are also making plans for the move to Argentina. We do not have a travel date set yet, but we are planning to make the move at the end of January. To do so we need to raise money for our plane tickets and set-up costs in Argentina. The estimated needed amount is $7000. If you would like to be part of the team that helps us make the move to Argentina you can send a donation to our church or mission board. Simply mark your donation as being for the move to Argentina. This is an opportunity for those who do not support us monthly to join in a financial way.

We have been in some great services recently that have been used to deepen our desire to see others accept the Lord. While we are doing the ministry we are called to, sometimes it becomes more “work” than “ministry” and we lose focus on our purpose. We are thankful that the Lord has helped us get recharged for the ministry He has called us to. Please pray that we will continue to keep our focus on the task.

The main theme of my messages this year has been about praying for your missionaries as if they were normal people going through the same struggles that you face. I want to encourage you once again to pray for us, and the other missionaries you support, in the same way that you want someone to pray for you. When you are struggling in an area, be conscientious that your missionary friends may be going through the same problems you are experiencing.

I have been reminded over the last few months that you and I are doing a work for God as a team. I want to thank you for the part you play in our team. Pray that we will perform the role on the team that God has called us to do.

David
