Our recent work in Mérida, México
Thank you for your prayers while we worked with the Deaf in Mérida, Yucatán, México.

We arrived there the end of July 2004. We started working with the Calvary Baptist Church of Mérida working to establish a deaf ministry within the church. The Lord allowed us to make good progress into the deaf community and we taught a weekly Bible study to the Deaf. After two years in the hearing church, God gave clear direction and led us to start a separate church for the Deaf. We rented a building near downtown and started holding regular church services. Our small Bible study group has grown into an active local church.

Bill and Jennifer Green joined us shortly before we rented the building. Bill and I worked together in leading the church until the summer of 2008 when we left Mérida for a year furlough. Knowing that we would not be returning to Mérida after our furlough the church people, did a great job of transfering the authority of the ministry over to Bill. Within a year after we left the church had doubled in attendance and is still growing.

Ministry Goals
The purpose of our ministry is to help churches establish an outreach to the Deaf. In some cases this will be through an interpreting ministry, in others it will be through training someone to lead the ministry as pastor of the deaf congregation. Whichever means, or variations thereof, we are dependent on the national workers to take this responsibility. God has equipped us as missionaries capable of training them for this ministry.

Our main ministry focus is on churches in Latin America. We know that we are going to Argentina to work next, but are open to God’s leading in other Spanish speaking countries in the future.
