Deaf Conference

April 9, 2006 7:29 am

I will be headed to Tampico for a conference of deaf pastors and missionaries here in Mexico. We have 2 of these a year and I really look forward to them. It is a great time of fellowship with other missionaries who are working in the same field. I also have an opportunity to learn quite a few new signs each time. Most of the Deaf with whom we work are not fluent in sign language. These conferences help me to see many Deaf who know the language well.

Pray for this trip. I will be gone from Sunday to Saturday (April 9-15). The family will stay here in Mérida for the week.

Update – April 5

April 5, 2006 9:53 pm

We had 2 people accept the Lord this evening! One, a 29 year old Deaf girl, has been attending our classes since September when Jim Walterhouse was with us. She is very sensitive to spiritual things, but has just never been taught the truth.

The other is a 16 year old hearing boy that is the cousin to one of our other Deaf. He has been coming just a few weeks, but has really enjoyed the classes. He has no knowledge of the Bible. Since he has been coming we have been working with the story of Noah. His only knowledge of this story is a show he saw on TV.

Pray for Ana Isabel and David as we continue to teach the Bible to them and that they will grow in the Lord.

Update – March 18

March 18, 2006 10:00 pm

Today marked a great landmark in our ministry here. I was able to start discipleship classes with some of the Deaf. Two started today. We will see if their excitement encourages others to make their learning about the Lord more personal.

We are just covering more in depth about what salvation is and how to live Christ like. We will be covering steps of obedience and how to grow in the Lord as well.

Please pray for our group. I am starting with the 5 who have been saved so far.

February Prayer Letter

February 25, 2006 12:49 pm

Dear Praying Friends,
We had a wonderful Christmas here in México as well as a great start to the new year. This was our second holiday season here. It is hard to believe that we have been in Mérida over a year and a half.

During the last couple of months we have had friends and family pass away. All three were saved and serving the Lord in their fields…

Update – February 12

February 12, 2006 4:52 pm

Thank you for praying. We arrived home safely this last week. We had a wonderful time with family and with our sending church.

Our Deaf group was down a bit this week. Even though someone covered for us while we were gone, I think our absence made a difference. The last several weeks have been rough on the group because of events in the community. Prayerfully we will be back up to normal now that things have settled down.

In the hearing church today we baptized 6 people. All of them have been coming for less than 6 months. Some were saved in the church, while some were saved just before they started attending. They were two adults and four teens.

David’s grandfather, J. T. Marsh, has been ill as mentioned previously here. As of Wednesday, January 25, he has become somewhat worse. The doctors are giving him just a few more hours to live as I write this on Thursday afternoon.

Please pray for the family. We are currently making plans to travel back to be with the family early next week.

Debbie Snare home with the Lord

January 8, 2006 10:07 pm

Allen Snare is one of our good friends. His wife went home to be with the Lord at 6:10 pm today, Sunday January 8. I am assuming this is eastern time.

Debbie has had cancer for the last few years. A couple of months back she was given a prognosis of six months. She leaves behind her husband and three children. The oldest (a daughter) is married. One son in college and one in high school.

The Snares are both Deaf. Two of their children are also Deaf. Allen was a pastor for the Deaf for many years in his home state of Pennsylvania. He is now a missionary with Silent Word Ministries.

Please pray for the family.
