Two Deaf Saved! – May 26

May 26, 2005 6:26 pm

We had 2 of our Deaf saved tonight! Israel, who has been coming since the first day of our studies and Maria Eugenia. Thank you for praying.

Due to different things that have come up the last couple of weeks, our faithful 5 have been temporarily pared down to 3. One of the 3 was not able to make it tonight, so that just left us with the 2 most advanced students in the group. I had been looking for an opportunity to meet with them separate from the group since I have felt that they are ready to make a salvation decision while the others are not to a point of understanding.

When just those 2 arrived tonight (along with a group of our sign language students) I knew the Lord had planned it. I took the opportunity to present the Gospel as clearly as I could based on the last several months of Bible studies with them.

Praise the Lord they both understood and accepted Christ as their Savior! The father of Israel was there with us too. Their family has been praying for 14 years that someone would be able to teach their son about the Lord. I am humbled to think that God used us to answer 14 years worth of prayers!

Update – May 13

Maria is a 9 year old deaf girl that we were able to meet this week. She lives in a village about 30 minutes from Mérida. She has just recently started to school and therefore is really limited on her communication skills. We are going to be trying to provide support to her through the school. This will give us an opportunity to help 5 other Deaf at the school.

Our ministry is not education per se, but if a person cannot even communicate, it is that much harder to get the Gospel to them. Will you pray for us as we seek to help this girl and the other Deaf at her school?

The national pastor with whom we work, Manuel Verde, has not been feeling well lately. He is taking some time off (about a month) to have some medical tests run. He is also going to use this time to work out some of the stress and pressure he has been feeling in the ministry. I would like to ask you to pray for him during this time. When we know some results of these tests and studies, I will post them here.

April 3 – Update

Last week I was privileged to lead two young people to the Lord! Among other classes and Bible studies, I have a class of 9 to 14 year old hearing kids that I teach. One of the students (10 years old) has been exposed to the Gospel for just a short time. She brought an 11 year old neighbor boy to class last week. I had the honor of showing both of them how they could have their home in Heaven.

We got news this week that our visas have been approved and we now only need to submit the final photos and fingerprints to have them issued! Praise the Lord for this. This has been in the process for over 6 months. I imagine that México is the easiest country in which to secure visas. I know now how better to pray for missionaries who are going through a rough time getting theirs in other countries.

March 26 – Update

The conference in Monterrey was tremendous! This was for pastors, missionaries and leaders of deaf works here in México. It was great fellowship and encouragement in the ministry here.

We had a deaf man accept the Lord before the start of the first service! He had been attending one of the churches, but had been involved in a cult and had many questions before finally deciding to trust the Lord for his salvation this week.

Sleep deprivation caused by the great time we had talking will probably result in long afternoon naps for the next few days.

March 6 – Update

We had a mission's team from Rock Spring, Georgia here with us for a week. They were helping to construct a new church building for a church that is south of the city of Mérida in the village of Dzununcan. It was exciting to see the amount of work they were able to accomplish in the week that they were with us.

During the same week we were able to see several souls saved through their ministry here as well as outreach from our church and its members. Approximately 20 souls were saved that week! Out of that number I can think of 13 of whom are either actively in a discipleship program already or have constant weekly contact with the one who led them to the Lord.
